Elevation Profile
About This Trail
Mount Norikura (Norikura-dake) offers the most accessible 3,000-meter summit experience in Japan. A bus from Norikura Kogen takes you to the Tatamidaira Bus Stop at 2,700 meters, leaving just 400 meters of gentle elevation gain to reach the 3,026-meter peak.
The entire trail is above the tree line, meaning panoramic views of the surrounding Japan Alps from start to finish. On clear days, you can see Mount Fuji to the south and the full spine of the Northern Alps stretching to the north. In July and August, alpine wildflowers carpet the slopes.
Why Climb Norikura?
- Easiest 3,000m peak in Japan — minimal fitness required
- Bus access to 2,700m — no multi-day approach needed
- Above treeline the entire way — constant alpine views
- Wildflower season (July-August) is spectacular
- Can be combined with nearby Kamikochi for a multi-day trip

Season
The bus to Tatamidaira operates from May to October, weather permitting. Late July to early September offers the most reliable weather and the best wildflower displays. The trail is hikeable whenever the bus is running — snow can linger into June on shaded sections.
